The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is the oldest and largest Hispanic civil rights organization in the United States. It was founded in 1929 in Corpus Christi, Texas. LULAC advocates for the advancement of Hispanic Americans in education, employment, health, and civil rights. Among other initiatives, the organization has increased voter registration, fought discrimination, and brought scholarships and leadership programs that promote educational opportunities. Over the years, LULAC has been instrumental in several landmark civil rights cases, including Delgado v. Bastrop ISD, which ended segregation in Texas schools. The organization continues to empower the Latino community toward equity and inclusion across the country.
